Brought in as Fractional CMO to rapidly scale the marketing organization, I transformed marketing into a measurable growth engine, helped launch the company's first brand campaign, built its enterprise marketing function, and contributed to Codecademy's $525 million acquisition by Skillsoft.  


Background 

Codecademy was experiencing rapid growth in demand but needed executive marketing leadership to scale the organization, modernize measurement, build an enterprise go-to-market function, and position the business for its next stage of growth.


Solution & Assignment

I stepped in as the acting CMO. My responsibilities included: 

  • Built a six-month transformation roadmap. 
  • Established marketing as a strategic business partner. 
  • Operationalized B2B go-to-market. 
  • Modernized marketing measurement. 
  • Built and led the team to meet key priorities and KPIs.
  • Created the foundation for scalable growth.

Led a strategy that consistently exceeded growth targets, playing a critical role in Codecademy's $525 million acquisition by Skillsoft, increasing valuation from $397 million.

We crafted a framework designed to enhance our storytelling, drawing inspiration from the Codecademy community and resonating with the current cultural climate. It has been woven into all our communications, from our blog and advertisements to learner testimonials. It allows us to shift from a transactional focus to embracing more extended, impactful narratives, all while maintaining a measurable approach. The outcome has been remarkable, contributing to a 31% year-over-year revenue growth from an already substantial eight-figure base.

Learner stories

We developed a learner story franchise to bolster our consumer and business brand through both video and written narratives. The video content was edited into advertisement spots and quickly became our top-performing creative material. 

TV Spot

Delivered first brand campaign including paid media, refined editorial strategy, and learner story videos, increasing brand awareness by +10% and session by 63%; led subsequent approval of the brand budget and greenlight for first TV commercial delivering 30% ahead of projected ROI. 

Operationalize B2B
